  • Happy Black History Month

Happy Black History Month to you too! It's a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black individuals and communities throughout history. It's also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing struggles for racial justice and equality. Let's honor the past and continue working towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Black history in nursing is rich and deeply significant. Despite facing discrimination and systemic barriers, Black nurses have made profound contributions to the field of healthcare and have played pivotal roles in improving healthcare outcomes for all people.

Throughout history, Black nurses have been pioneers in the nursing profession. One notable figure is Mary Eliza Mahoney, who became the first African American to study and work as a professionally trained nurse in the United States. She graduated from the New England Hospital for Women and Children's Nursing School in 1879.
